I did an experiment today – starting a new piece and as I progressed, taking photos every time I thought of it. I wanted to see for myself how I work on a pastel – to see if there was a method or logic or style. Generally, I think of my work pattern as scattered and that is probably right. But I have fun and sometimes like the finished piece. This one is not done yet, but I like it so far.

This is very nice, Regina. Well done on the demo. The sky is amazing. How large is the painting? Is it on paper or board? I love the brilliance in the sky.

Thank you, Jo – I’m finally going large! Well, larger than before anyway. This is 18″x24″. I’m painting from one of my sky photos. It’s not really a demo ~ more of a record of my haphazard creating style.
And the photo (wish I had Joanna too!) is not quite accurate, as I took it inside. Not quite so strong on the darker blues.

Very cool.
Whenever I see one of these WiP things you painters do, I’m always amazed that the “mess” at the beginning turns into the cool “non-mess” at the end! It just doesn’t seem possible. Heh.

Thank you, Joanna. I don’t know if I should have put it on the site before I was done, but it was an experiment. I’m always super messy at the beginning. And sometimes at the end!

Thank you, Jo. I’m still working on it and hope to have it done this week.
