Great painting….especially love the vibrancy of the green. Like how you cropped and changed the colors up. Very harmonious.

Hi Regina, great colours and I really like how you’ve adapted the reference. Pastels of any kind are out of my comfort zone so I respect anyone who gets such a good result with them. Well done.

I like your choice of colour, especially against this soft background, which reminds me of doves’ feathers .. so pretty. The marks made with the pastels give the fruit strength and interest, I think, against the blended background.

Regina – I love your pears in pastel-yes mine were really crayon but I usually work in pastels and color pencil also – ( my blog is mostly about my efforts to learn to sketch and use watercolor)- I am missing pastels I just love yours!
Break in the Clouds and the step by step is also very nice – I love the trees in your banner too.

P.S. was it Wallis paper or something else?

This is a lovely colored pencil version of the pears! Thank you so much for stopping by my blog and commenting on my drawing, as well. This is my first time with Virtual Sketch, and I am really enjoying it!

Oh, Regina, I forgot to answer your question–yes, this is charcoal. I hadn’t done a charcoal drawing in about thirty years! :-)

Thanks Regina. I really like your pastel version too, especially the way it is cropped. I never heard of using pastels on sand paper before.

Very nice for a quick sketch! Love those pears.

Joanie – Thank you very much. It took me a while to find the greens I liked.

Andy – Thank you, and I loved your watercolor and the lavender that you used as an accent. Watercolors are very much beyond my comfort zone. Pastels forgive your mistakes, but watercolors turn up their nose and refuse to budge.

Vivienne – thanks for your comments. Once I started adding in the blue, I liked them much better.

Jeanette – thank you so much!

Regina, I love the variation in the green colors and the shadows. Although a softer feel to it I can see the texture in the skin of the pears. Wonderful job! I wasn’t able to particpate this month..too much going on but I hope to see you next month.

Really lovely interpretation. Really soft colours that work so well and I love the shadows.

I really like the texture on the pears. Nicely done.

I like the way you handled the background. The greens in the pears are pleasing and seem perfect.

Kathleen – I love Wallis paper, but had heard somewhere about pastelists using fine sand paper. This sand paper would only take a few layers, barely, so I didn’t really like it. But it was good to experiment.

I love the usage of blue in this, nice colors.

Regina, I know that feeling about starting late. I was in the same boat this month. But that’s one of the things I like about the VSD. It pushes me to finish something that I might otherwise not even have started.

I like your neutral background, it really makes the color in the pears stand out.

I really like the blues in this. Makes it very dramatic.

  • 25 Paulette // Oct 28, 2008 at 9:25 am

    Nice work!
I like the colour contrast between the background and the pears.

I love your interpretation. Personally I adore using soft pastels on special pastel board that is like fine sandpaper, it takes the colour beautifully.
