Slogging along. Flogging? Treading through ankle deep sludge. For several months now. Long work days, multiple deadlines, commitments, tax forms, pressure…
I finally had a free day last Friday with nothing hanging over my head — went out to the studio, hot Starbucks in hand and several great photos to work from. And everything I tried looked like the sludge I couldn’t get away from. I have bland, mediocre, half-started pastels lining the baseboard around my studio. So I sat down, read some pastel magazines while I drank the rest of my Starbucks mocha, then came inside and went back to work organizing my office.
Today I started this one from a photo I took last week. I like it so far. No detail yet, but I the colors are good, I think.

That is a nice start! Good job on getting back at the easel. I read Carol Marine’s blog and she had a bad day also day before yesterday, I think it was. She painted apples today and recommended painting what you know to get going again. Funny as I painted apples today, too, one of my favorite things to paint.
I see you went back to your trees, shapes and shadows. It works I guess.
