Variations on a Hibiscus

August 13th, 2010 · 2 Comments

One of the many beautiful hibiscus I’ve had over the last month or two, and very much appreciated.

As a project for drawing a flower, here is:
1) the original photo of a hibiscus that I took (reduced here, but you can right-click to download the full extra-large photo if you like – about 280KB)
2) a grey-scale reduced version of the same photo
3) another version where the image has been reduced to 16 colors (via my Paintshop Pro graphic software)
4) another version where the hue has been adjusted to a nice minty green

I’m going to work at drawing one of these this weekend, and will post it in a few days.

Nice samples of the ideas you have. I will be waiting to see the finish!

Jo – I love these hibiscus! I think the greenhouse put three different plants in the same pot – I have deep red, a red-orange, and an orange, usually at least one a day for the last two months. But now it’s 102 (108 heat index), and they may not be happy about that..
